Tooth Extraction in Mississauga

Tooth extraction in Mississauga is sometimes needed when a tooth can’t be saved. It may be badly decayed, cracked below the gumline, loose from gum disease or crowding other teeth, and removing it gently stops the pain and infection so you can plan what comes next. At River Run Dental Centre, our dentists remove teeth for children, teens and adults, including emergency tooth removal when you’re in pain.
We always try to save a tooth first. If a dental extraction is the right choice, we explain why, and what your options are for replacing the tooth. We’re open 7 days a week, including evenings and Sundays.
When a Tooth Extraction Helps
Removing a tooth is never the first choice, but it’s often the right one when a tooth keeps causing problems.
Stops pain from a badly damaged tooth
Removes the source of an infection
Makes room for braces or crowded teeth
Protects the teeth around it

What Happens During a Tooth Extraction
A simple extraction usually takes 20 to 40 minutes. Here’s what to expect.
Exam and X-rays
Your dentist checks the tooth and its roots and explains why it needs to come out.
Freezing
We numb the tooth and gum with local anesthetic, so you feel pressure but not sharp pain.
Gentle Removal
The tooth is loosened and lifted out. Some teeth come out in pieces or need a few stitches.
A simple extraction removes a tooth you can see above the gum. A surgical extraction is needed for a broken tooth or one that hasn’t come through, such as an impacted wisdom tooth. We’ll tell you which one you need before we start. If you’re nervous, tell us when you book and we’ll go at your pace.
Why Choose River Run for Tooth Extraction
A missing tooth affects your bite, so we never take an extraction lightly. You’ll know why the tooth needs to come out, what it costs and how to replace it, before we begin.

Tooth Extraction Cost in Mississauga
Tooth extraction cost in Mississauga depends on whether it’s a simple or surgical extraction, which tooth it is, and whether you need X-rays or a follow-up visit. A simple extraction costs less than removing a broken or impacted tooth. The average cost of tooth extraction in Ontario follows the same pattern, so when you compare tooth extraction fees, ask whether X-rays and follow-up are included.
With insurance: most workplace plans cover extractions as basic treatment, so your share is usually small. We’ll check your coverage before we start.
Without insurance: we’ll give you the tooth extraction price before any treatment, so there are no surprises. If you’re looking for a cheap or affordable tooth extraction, ask us to explain each part of the cost.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) covers tooth extractions, including many wisdom teeth, for eligible patients.

Tooth Extraction Aftercare
Most people feel back to normal in a few days. To help the socket heal:
- Bite on the gauze for 30 to 45 minutes to stop the bleeding
- Rest for the day and keep your head raised
- Don’t smoke, spit or drink through a straw for at least 48 hours, so the blood clot stays in place
- Eat soft, cool food and chew on the other side
- Rinse gently with warm salt water from the next day
- Take pain relievers as your dentist recommends
Call us if the pain gets worse after two or three days, or you notice a bad taste or smell. That can be a sign of dry socket, where the clot comes loose, and it’s easy for us to treat.
Once you’ve healed, you can replace the tooth with a dental implant, a bridge or a denture.
Tooth Extraction for Kids, Teens and Adults
We remove teeth at every age, for different reasons.
- Children: baby teeth that won’t fall out on their own, are badly decayed or are blocking an adult tooth. We keep tooth extraction for kids quick and explain each step in words they understand.
- Teens: extractions to make room for braces, and early wisdom teeth removal if X-rays show a problem.
- Adults and seniors: broken, badly decayed or loose teeth, and teeth that need to come out before dentures or implants.
Whatever your age, we’ll talk you through the options before any tooth is removed.
Dry Socket: Causes, Relief and Treatment
A dry socket can happen when the blood clot that forms after an extraction “doesn’t form or gets knocked loose, exposing the bone and nerves” (Cleveland Clinic). It affects about 2% to 5% of extractions and usually shows up within the first three days, as pain that gets worse instead of better.
- Dry socket causes: smoking, drinking through a straw and swishing mouthwash too hard can all dislodge the clot. Cleveland Clinic notes that people who smoke are over three times more likely to get one, and advises skipping the straw for at least a week.
- What to do for dry socket: call us. If you’re searching for how to fix dry socket at home, the answer is that you can’t, so don’t wait it out if the pain keeps you up at night or doesn’t improve with medication.
- Dry socket relief: over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen help until you’re seen.
- Dry socket treatment: your dentist gently rinses the socket and may place a numbing medication inside it. With proper care, it usually heals within seven to 10 days.
We see emergency dry socket visits 7 days a week, including after an extraction done at another clinic. Dry socket treatment in Mississauga is one call away at 905-567-6891.
