Kids Dentist in Mississauga

As a kids dentist in Mississauga, we know a child’s first visits shape how they feel about the dentist for years. At River Run Dental Centre, our family dentists see babies, toddlers, children and teens for gentle checkups, cleanings, fillings and practical advice for parents. We take things slowly, explain each step and keep visits positive.
We recommend a first visit by your child’s first birthday, or within six months of their first tooth. We’re open 7 days a week, including evenings and Sundays, so appointments fit around school.
Why Early Children's Dentistry Matters
Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth and help children eat and speak. Tooth decay is one of the most common childhood health problems, and it’s largely preventable.
Finds cavities early, while they're small
Builds a calm, positive routine
Protects baby teeth that hold space for adult teeth
Gives parents practical tips for home care

What Happens at Your Child's Dental Visit
A children’s checkup usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. Little ones can sit on your lap, and we explain every step in words they understand.
Gentle Exam
We check their teeth, gums and bite, and look at how adult teeth are coming in.
Cleaning and Fluoride
A quick polish removes plaque, and fluoride varnish helps strengthen the enamel.
Tips for Parents
We show you how to brush your child's teeth and answer questions about diet, thumb-sucking and more.
X-rays are only taken when needed, usually once back teeth are touching. If we find a cavity, we explain your options and can usually fix it with a small filling. Sealants, a thin protective coating on back molars, help prevent cavities in the grooves where most children’s decay starts.

Children's Dentistry Cost in Mississauga
The cost of your child’s dental visit depends on what they need: a checkup and cleaning, fluoride, sealants, X-rays or a filling. We explain costs before any treatment, so there are no surprises.
With insurance: most family dental plans cover children’s checkups, cleanings and fluoride at a high rate, and your child is usually covered on a parent’s plan.
Without insurance: ask for a price when you book. Regular checkups usually cost far less than treating cavities once they get bigger.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) covers eligible children and teens without dental insurance. Ask us about Healthy Smiles Ontario and other government programs for children when you book.
We Direct Bill Your Dental Insurance
Pay only your share at your visit. We accept most private dental plans, the Canadian Dental Care Plan and several government programs, and we offer payment plans if you don't have insurance.

When Should Your Child First See a Dentist?
Book your child’s first dental visit by their first birthday. After that, most children need a checkup every six months. Here’s what to expect as they grow:
- Babies and toddlers (0 to 3): first teeth, teething, bottle and sippy cup habits, and brushing tiny teeth. As a dentist for toddlers, we keep these visits short and gentle.
- Preschoolers (3 to 5): regular checkups, fluoride, and learning to brush with a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
- School age (6 to 12): adult teeth coming in, sealants on new molars, sports guards and checking for crowding.
- Teens (13 to 17): braces or Invisalign, wisdom teeth checks, and cavity prevention during busy years full of snacks.
Between visits, brush twice a day, floss once teeth touch, limit juice and sticky snacks, and never put a baby to bed with a bottle of milk or juice.

Yes. Dental X-rays use a very low dose of radiation, and we only take them when needed. They help us find cavities between teeth that we can't see during the exam.
Sealants are a thin coating painted onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth. They seal the deep grooves where food gets stuck, which helps prevent cavities. Placing them is quick, with no drilling or freezing, and they usually go on when adult molars come in.
Yes. The Canadian Dental Care Plan covers eligible children and teens whose families don't have dental insurance, including checkups, cleanings, fluoride, sealants and fillings. Bring your child's CDCP details and we'll check their coverage.
