Braces in Mississauga

Braces in Mississauga straighten crooked, crowded or gapped teeth and correct bite problems for children, teens and adults. Brackets and a wire gently move your teeth over time, and they can handle cases that clear aligners can’t. At River Run Dental Centre, our dentists offer metal and tooth-coloured braces.
We’re open 7 days a week, including evenings and Sundays, so adjustment visits fit around school and work.

How Braces Treatment Works
Most braces treatment takes 12 to 24 months, depending on how far your teeth need to move.
Consultation and Records
We check your teeth and bite and take X-rays, photos and scans to plan your treatment.
Placing Your Braces
We bond small brackets to each tooth and connect them with a wire. It takes about an hour and doesn't need freezing.
Regular Adjustments
Every six to eight weeks, we adjust the wire to keep your teeth moving in the right direction.
Your teeth may feel sore for a few days after the braces go on and after each adjustment. Soft food and an over-the-counter pain reliever help. When treatment ends, we remove the braces and give you dental retainers to keep your new smile in place.
Why Choose River Run for Braces
We’ll tell you honestly whether braces or Invisalign suits your teeth better, and what each one costs, so you can choose with confidence.

Braces Cost in Mississauga
Braces cost in Mississauga depends on how complex your case is, how long treatment takes and which type you choose. Metal brackets usually cost less than tooth-coloured ceramic ones. The total normally includes your records, brackets, adjustments and first retainer. The average cost of braces in Ontario varies from clinic to clinic. When you compare one braces price with another, check whether retainers and adjustment visits are included, since braces fees don’t always cover the same things.
With insurance: some workplace plans include orthodontic coverage, often with a lifetime maximum and sometimes only for children. We’ll check your plan.
Without insurance: you’ll get the full cost at your consultation. If you’re looking for cheap or affordable braces, ask us about spreading treatment across two insurance years, and compare the cost with Invisalign.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) only covers orthodontic treatment in limited, medically necessary cases.

Braces vs Invisalign: Which Is Right for You?
Both straighten teeth and fix bite problems. Here’s how they compare:
| Braces | Invisalign | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Mild to severe crowding and complex bite problems | Mild to moderate crowding, gaps and bite issues |
| Visible | Yes, less so with tooth-coloured brackets | Nearly invisible |
| Removable | No | Yes, for eating and cleaning |
| Treatment time | Usually 12 to 24 months | Usually 6 to 18 months |
| Daily discipline | Not needed | Aligners worn 20 to 22 hours a day |
Many teens and adults do well with Invisalign. Braces are often the better choice for younger children, complex bites, or anyone who’d rather not have to remember to wear aligners.
Braces for Kids, Teens and Adults
There’s no upper age limit for straightening teeth, as long as your teeth and gums are healthy.
- Children: an orthodontic check around age 7 can spot crowding or bite problems early, when they’re easier to guide.
- Teens: the most common time for braces, once adult teeth are in and the jaw is still growing.
- Adults: fix teeth that were never treated, or that shifted after braces years ago. Tooth-coloured brackets are a more cosmetic option at work.
Wondering where to get braces in Mississauga? Most cases can be treated here by our general dentists. For very complex bites or jaw problems, we’ll refer you to an orthodontist and coordinate your care. During treatment, brush after meals, avoid hard and sticky food, and keep up with your cleanings.
Looking After Your Teeth During Treatment
Brackets and wires trap food easily, so a good routine matters even more while your teeth are moving.
- Brush after meals with a soft brush, angling it above and below the brackets. Small interdental brushes clean under the wire.
- Floss once a day with a floss threader or a water flosser.
- Protect your smile in sports: wear a mouthguard for contact sports, and ask us which type of sports guard works with your brackets.
- If a bracket comes loose or a wire pokes: cover it with orthodontic wax and call us. It’s rarely urgent, and we’ll fix it at a time that suits you.
- Keep up your checkups: cleanings every six months continue alongside your adjustment visits.
Choosing a Braces Dentist in Mississauga
Not every dentist for braces works the same way, so bring a few questions to your braces consultation:
- Which types are offered? Our dental braces services include metal and tooth-coloured ceramic braces, and we also offer Invisalign clear aligners.
- Want something less visible? Ask about ceramic braces or aligners at a cosmetic braces consultation, and we’ll explain whether they suit your bite.
- What does the price include? Ask whether records, brackets, adjustments and the first retainer are all in the quote.
- How will you pay? We direct bill dental plans with orthodontic coverage and offer payment plans for the rest.
At your consultation, your dentist checks your teeth and bite, takes X-rays if needed, and explains how long treatment may take before you decide.

Most people get braces between 10 and 14, once most adult teeth are in. We suggest a first orthodontic check around age 7, and adults can get braces at any age.
