River Run Dental Centre Accepts NIHB Dental Coverage
Looking for an NIHB dentist in Mississauga? River Run Dental Centre accepts dental coverage through the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program, and we bill it directly, so you don’t pay for covered care. We’re a dentist accepting NIHB dental for new and existing patients.
We’re a family dental clinic at 11-1525 Bristol Rd W, near Creditview Rd, open 7 days a week, including weekday evenings and Sundays.
What Is NIHB Dental Coverage?
The Non-Insured Health Benefits program is run by Indigenous Services Canada. It covers a range of health benefits, including dental care, for eligible First Nations and Inuit people when those services aren’t covered by another plan.
NIHB Dental Eligibility: Who Is Covered?
You may be eligible for NIHB dental coverage if you are:
- A First Nations person registered under the Indian Act
- An Inuk recognized by an Inuit land claim organization
- A child under 18 months old whose parent is an eligible NIHB client
If you also have a workplace dental plan, that plan is billed first and NIHB may cover the rest.
What Does NIHB Dental Cover?
NIHB covers many dental services, including:
- Exams, X-rays, cleanings and fluoride
- Fillings and extractions
- Root canal treatment and gum disease treatment
- Complete and partial dentures
- Some orthodontic treatment, in limited cases
Some services, such as dentures, some root canals and orthodontics, need approval (predetermination) before treatment. There are also limits on how often some services are covered. We check your coverage and send any approval request for you.
How NIHB Dental Claims Work
NIHB dental claims are processed by Express Scripts Canada. We submit your claim directly, so you don’t pay upfront for covered services or send in paperwork yourself.
There’s no separate application for NIHB dental. If you’re registered and eligible, you’re covered. To use it, bring your status card or your registration number.
Approvals, Limits and Appeals
The program pays for dental care based on set guidelines. Routine care like checkups and fillings usually goes ahead without extra steps. For dentures, some root canals, crowns and orthodontics, we send a predetermination with X-rays and notes, and NIHB decides before treatment starts.
If a request is turned down, you can appeal. We can help by providing the clinical records and a letter explaining why the treatment is needed. There are also limits on how often some services are paid for, such as cleanings and dentures, so we check your history before booking treatment.
Your NIHB Client Number and Dental Forms
To use your coverage, bring your status card or your NIHB client number to each visit. Inuit clients can use the client number from their Inuit land claim organization. There’s no NIHB dental card to apply for. We complete the NIHB dental forms, including predetermination requests, and send them for you.
Keeping Coverage Active and Renewal
NIHB dental coverage doesn’t need to be renewed. It continues as long as you remain eligible. If your details change, such as your name or address, update them with Indigenous Services Canada so your claims aren’t delayed. Parents should register a new baby with Indigenous Services Canada early, because coverage under a parent’s number is only temporary.
What If Treatment Isn't Covered?
If part of your treatment isn’t covered by NIHB, we’ll tell you before we start and explain your options. These may include a simpler treatment that is covered, spreading treatment over several visits, a payment plan, or checking whether you qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan. You’ll never be surprised by a bill.
