A Direct Billing Dentist in Mississauga That Accepts Insurance
Most people have some kind of dental coverage, and using your dental insurance in Mississauga shouldn’t be complicated. River Run Dental Centre is a dentist that accepts insurance in Mississauga. As a dentist with direct billing for most plans, we send the claim for you, so you usually pay only your share at your visit.
We accept private dental insurance, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and several government programs. If you don’t have insurance, we offer payment plans, a simple form of dental financing for larger treatment. We’re at 11-1525 Bristol Rd W, near Creditview Rd, open 7 days a week, including evenings and Sundays, and we’re accepting new patients.

Government Dental Programs We Accept
- Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP): federal coverage for eligible residents without dental insurance
- Healthy Smiles Ontario: free dental care for eligible children and youth 17 and under
- ODSP and Ontario Works: dental coverage for eligible recipients and their families
- Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB): dental coverage for eligible First Nations and Inuit patients
OHIP doesn’t cover routine dental care such as checkups, cleanings, fillings, root canals or dentures. It only covers certain dental surgery done in a hospital. There’s no separate OHIP dental eligibility or application: if you need hospital dental surgery, your dentist or specialist arranges it with your health card.
The Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program is provided through public health units and community health centres rather than private dental offices, so we can’t bill it. To be eligible, you must be 65 or older, live in Ontario, meet the income limits and have no other dental benefits. You can apply online or by mail, and find a clinic, through the Government of Ontario or Peel Public Health. Many seniors now qualify for CDCP, which we do accept.
How Direct Billing Works
- Bring your plan details: your insurance card, or your plan and ID numbers, plus any second plan.
- We check your coverage: before treatment, we confirm what your plan covers and explain your share.
- We send the claim: at your visit, the claim goes to your insurer electronically and they reply within minutes.
- You pay the difference: only the part your plan doesn’t cover, if any.
A few plans pay you rather than the clinic. We still submit the claim for you; you pay at the visit and your insurer reimburses you.
Understanding Your Dental Coverage
Dental plans can be confusing. These are the terms that matter most:
- Coverage levels: most plans pay a higher share for basic care like cleanings and fillings, and a lower share for major care like crowns.
- Annual maximum: the most your plan pays in a year. Larger treatment can often be split across two plan years.
- Frequency limits: how often a service is covered, such as a cleaning every six or nine months.
- Waiting periods: some individual plans don’t cover major work for the first months. Workplace plans usually have no waiting period.
- Predetermination: before larger treatment, we can send a request so you know exactly what your plan pays.
- Two plans: if you’re covered by your own plan and a spouse’s, we bill both, which can cover more of the cost. This is called coordination of benefits.
No Insurance? Payment Plans and Other Options
You don’t need insurance to see us. As a dentist for uninsured patients, we explain costs before any treatment and offer payment plans for larger work. You can also spread treatment over several visits. If you’re looking for a low income dental clinic in Mississauga, programs like CDCP, Healthy Smiles Ontario and ODSP can cover most care here. Thinking of walking in without insurance? Call first and we’ll fit you in as soon as we can. You may also qualify for CDCP if you don’t have access to dental insurance.
We don’t offer free dental checkups, but eligible children can get free checkups and cleanings through Healthy Smiles Ontario.
Choosing a Dental Plan in Ontario
If you don’t have dental benefits through work, for example because you’re self-employed or retired, you can buy individual or family dental insurance in Ontario. Dental insurance providers in Ontario, including Manulife and Ontario Blue Cross, sell plans for individuals, families and seniors. When you compare dental insurance in Ontario, look at:
- The yearly maximum, and how much it pays for basic and major care
- Waiting periods, especially for crowns, dentures and implants
- Whether orthodontics is included
- The monthly cost compared with what you usually spend on dental care
We don’t sell insurance and can’t recommend a specific plan, but we’re happy to explain what a plan would mean for the treatment you need.
