If you’re covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), you can use your coverage at River Run Dental Centre, a family dental clinic at 11-1525 Bristol Rd W in Mississauga. We welcome new and existing CDCP patients of every age, and we’re open 7 days a week, including weekday evenings and Sundays.
Call us at 905-567-6891 or request an appointment online. Bring your CDCP member details and we’ll check your coverage before any treatment starts.
Who Is Eligible for CDCP?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal program, launched in December 2023, for residents who can’t get dental insurance through work, a family member or a group plan. You may qualify if you meet all four of these conditions:
Canadian resident
You’re a resident of Canada for tax purposes.
No dental insurance
You don’t have access to dental coverage through an employer, pension, family member or other group plan.
Income under $90,000
Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000 a year.
Taxes filed
You, and your spouse or common-law partner, filed last year’s tax return and received a Notice of Assessment.
In 2026 there are no age limits, so eligible children, adults and seniors can all apply. Eligibility rules are set by the Government of Canada and can change, so check the official CDCP website for the latest details.
What Does CDCP Cover?
CDCP covers a wide range of medically necessary dental care, all of which River Run Dental Centre provides:
| Category | Examples of covered care |
|---|---|
| Preventive | Checkups, teeth cleaning, fluoride and sealants |
| Diagnostic | Exams and X-rays |
| Restorative | Fillings and crowns (crowns need pre-authorization) |
| Root canals (endodontics) | Root canal treatment and retreatment |
| Gum care (periodontics) | Deep cleaning and gum disease treatment |
| Dentures (prosthodontics) | Complete and partial dentures, relines and repairs |
| Oral surgery | Tooth extractions, including wisdom teeth |
Cosmetic treatments, such as teeth whitening and veneers, are not covered.
How Much Will I Pay With CDCP?
CDCP pays for covered services using a set fee grid. Depending on your adjusted family net income, you may pay a share of that fee, called a co-payment:
| Adjusted family net income | CDCP pays | Your co-payment |
|---|---|---|
| Under $70,000 | 100% of the CDCP fee | None |
| $70,000 to $79,999 | 60% of the CDCP fee | 40% |
| $80,000 to $89,999 | 40% of the CDCP fee | 60% |
Dental fees can be higher than the CDCP fee grid. If any part of your treatment costs more than CDCP pays, or isn’t covered, we’ll give you an estimate of your share before we start, so there are no surprises.
CDCP Coverage Limits to Know
CDCP has no annual dollar maximum. Instead, it limits how often some services are covered:
| Service | How often it’s covered |
|---|---|
| Routine checkup exam | Once every 12 months |
| Complete oral exam | Once every 5 years |
| Emergency exam | No limit |
| Crowns | Up to 4 every 10 years, and 1 per tooth every 8 years |
| Immediate dentures | 1 per arch, per lifetime |
| Denture reline or rebase | Once every 3 years |
We check your treatment history before booking, so you know what’s covered at your visit.
Pre-Authorization for CDCP
Some treatments need approval from Sun Life, the plan administrator, before they start. Pre-authorization can take 25 to 30 business days, so we submit the request as soon as your treatment plan is ready. Treatments that usually need it include:
- Crowns, posts and cores
- Partial dentures and overdentures
- Root canal retreatment
- Tooth desensitization and bonding of loose teeth
Routine care such as checkups, cleanings, fillings, extractions and standard dentures doesn’t need pre-authorization.
How to Apply for CDCP
- 1
Check eligibility
Confirm you meet the four conditions above on the official CDCP website.
- 2
Gather documents
Your SIN, date of birth, full name, address, last year’s Notice of Assessment, and your spouse’s details.
- 3
Apply online or by phone
Apply through the Government of Canada website, or call Service Canada at 1-833-537-4342.
- 4
Watch for your welcome package
Sun Life sends your member card and coverage start date, usually within 2 to 4 weeks.
Start your application on the Government of Canada’s Canadian Dental Care Plan page on Canada.ca.
Make sure your application matches your tax return exactly, or it may be delayed or declined. A family member, friend or legal representative can apply on your behalf if you need help.
After You Apply, and Renewing Each Year
- Wait for your start date. Your Sun Life welcome letter lists the date your coverage begins. CDCP doesn’t pay for treatment done before that date.
- Renew every year. In 2026, the renewal window runs from April 15 to June 1. If you miss it, coverage ends on June 30 and you’ll need to reapply, and treatment during the gap isn’t covered.
- Change dentists anytime. You can switch to River Run Dental Centre whenever you like; your coverage comes with you.
Rules and dates can change each year. Check the official CDCP website for the current renewal period.
